Tournai; the capital of the Franks in the time displayed in the game. Visit the church of Saint Brice, where the grave of Frankish King Childerich (first archeological proven Frankish King) was found.

The Franks in the game are feared riders ... Visit the city of Aachen, (if you also like horses during CHIO) Already Roman historian Tacitus writes about the Tencteri-Tribe, that they are famous horsemen, the eldest son inherits the farm, but the most fierce one the horse and the weapons. Also in Aachen is located the Cathedral of Karl, the greatest of all Frankish Kings with his throne.

Near Aachen also ist the city of Zülpich, where a battle between and Franks and Alemanni took place.
According to legend before the battle, the Alemanni leaders promised to sacrifice all spoils to Wotan (they tried to bribe him). When King Chlodwig heared of this, he became a little bit anxious, because he could obviously make no better offer to his God. Bishop Remigius convinced him, that he could try something different ...
result: Chlodwig and his Franks won and became Christian (and "convinced" other tribes in middle- and northeren Europe to do the same later on)

Franks in the game have good axes and swords ... If you want to share that craftsmanship, visit the city of Solingen; many factories there have sales. Here you can get new arguments for discussing with your notorious unfriendly neighbour (or just some kitchen-tools). You experienced the axes of the Franks as very effective in the game; note that Germany's eldest axe-smithy is in the nearby city of Remscheid (my hometown , this city is also famous for tools - We make stuff to construct, the people from Solingen only think of desturction - it is obvious who are the better people )

A city where you can go for the sites of 2 improtant battles in Frankish history (and by the way the city is also very nice): Poitiers
Near Poitiers (at Voille or Voulon) in 507 Frankish King Chlodwig battled the Visigoths for domination of Gallia, he barely survied due to his good horse (see Aachen) while Goth King Alarich II was slayn, so the (Visi-)goths were driven out of the region and the Franks took control and made it "France" (this site does not appear in the visit the Visigoths-list for obvious reasons)
Also in this region (at Vouneuil-sur-Vienne between Tours and Poitiers) in October 732 Franks leader (Majordomo) Karl Martell ("the Hammer") smashed an Arab invasion of France. In Arab the way FROM the site back TO their homes is called "Highway of Martyrs" so obviously he was quite successfull (even if you perhaps don't believe it due to recent events)

Cologne - it is full of historical places, here will be named the cathedral and the roman-german museum In the treasury of the Cathedral is (among other stuff) the grave-goods of some graves from the time of the Merowingans (likely short after the time displayed in the game; the woman might be Lombard) The roman-german museum is full of object from antiquity and early middle ages, so it is worth a visit also for people interested in the time displayed in the game.
